For diaphragm pumps, if the suction range exceeds 3 meters, Santoprene balls should not be used as they can reduce the pump’s suction power.

Heavier balls are generally better, but stainless steel balls should only be used with diaphragm pumps that have pump bodies made of cast iron or stainless steel. They should not be used with other pump materials as this can lead to quicker pump failure.

  • Buna-N/Nitrile: Applied in industries dealing with petroleum-based liquids like leaded gasoline, fuel oil, non-synthetic hydraulic oil, kerosene, paraffin oil, and engine oil. Commonly red.
  • EPDM/Nordel: Used in industries with low or extremely low temperatures or as a replacement when pumping diluted acids or corrosive substances. Commonly blue.
  • FKM/Viton: Suitable for high-temperature industries and liquids with corrosive properties such as aromatic hydrocarbons or chlorine and highly corrosive acids. Commonly silver or white.
  • Santoprene: Used with acidic and corrosive substances such as sodium hydroxide, sulfuric acid, or hydrochloric acid. Offers good wear resistance and durability. Commonly cream.
  • Hytrel: FDA-approved for food processing applications. Commonly cream, with some brands using alternative colors.
  • Geolast: Suitable for various types of liquids. Commonly black.
  • PTFE: Used for highly corrosive liquids such as aromatic hydrocarbons or chlorine, acids, corrosive substances, ketones, and acetates. Commonly white.
  • Stainless Steel: Excellent chemical resistance and suitable for food processing applications due to ease of cleaning and corrosion resistance.
